Newport Beach Flag Football : Fall 2024 League

This League is STILL ACCEPTING Individual Players, Small Groups of Friends, and Teams. Here are a few details that might help you prepare for your first game… If you have ANY questions not answered here, please don’t hesitate to email or call us!

League Dates:  The Fall Season of coed football is from September 8th - November 10th (no games on October 6th).  (Please understand that we have a no-refund policy once a league has begun. However, rest assured that we are fully committed to providing your full value of games as we are able to.

Registration Deadline(s): In order to receive a team T-shirt on week 2, you must be signed up before Midnight on opening night. Free Agents will be placed onto a team on/before Week 1. Late Registrations will close on week 3 (September 22nd) and rosters must be complete with 12 players in order to qualify for playoffs. There will be no roster changes after week 3.

Free Open House for Free Agents: Each season we offer an open house to allow new & veteran players to come meet new faces and to get a chance to have any of their questions answered in person. This is a great opportunity for any of your new players to ‘get the hang’ of the rules, meet the event coordinators, etc…We encourage you to take advantage of this time! This season's open house has already passed.

Game Location: Games are played on on the beach just north of the Balboa Pier Parking lot in Newport Beach, right next to the fire pits (for GPS purposes use the cross streets Adams & Newport Balboa Bike Trail). Biking, walking or carpooling is highly recommended. Metered parking is available on the Newport Peninsula (it is also FREE after 6pm). There is also paid/permit parking available closest to the football fields within the Balboa Pier Parking Lot that can be pre-paid at designated kiosks or via a free smartphone app. http://www.beachcitysports.com/location/2554

 Week One Instructions: Please be sure to arrive a minimum 20 minutes early on the first & last weeks to check-in. Once you arrive at the beach, you’ll need to go directly to the main tent to check-in, receive your wristband (wristbands are required to play), and ask any questions you may have from our staff. For playoffs, you will need to have a photo ID for checking in.

Join us there before or after your games for mingling with other players, eating, and drinking EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE WEEK simply by showing your BCS App!  

League Rules: Our Football Rules are prefaced by our 3 basic Golden Rules: 1) Compete with Safety First in mind, we are all here to have FUN  2) Show Good Sportsmanship at all times (this includes respecting the referees, helping everyone up off the sand - whether teammate or opponent - and shaking hands after every game)  And 3) we ask that you be our partner in leaving our beach cleaner than when you found it.

ABSOLUTELY NO POCKETS will be permitted on player shorts or pants in any of our flag football leagues. PLAYERS WITH POCKETS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO PLAY. Please be responsible to purchase your own pair(s) of shorts or pants without pockets, in consideration for the safety of your fellow players' fingers. Zipped pockets & soft horizontal yoga pant slits are acceptable.

Please Note: No alcohol is permitted on the beach due to Newport City and State ordinances.

Schedule: Your first game will be on Sunday, September 8th at 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am, or 12:00pm. The schedule for the entire season has been published on our mobile-friendly website at :: https://www.beachcitysports.com/league/76321/schedule. Any games you are not able to attend, please communicate with your team captain as early as possible to let them know in advance. Captains must let us know at least 48 hours in advance of a forfeit.

Clothing: Team dry-fit shirts (for those registered by opening night and are opted in) will be picked up by your captain at the main tent on week 2 and no later than the 3rd week. For the first week we recommend you bring both a light and dark shirt to represent home & away. Proper attire throughout the season will include comfortable shorts or pants without belt loops or pockets (NO baggy shorts and NO POCKETS). Shirts are required to be TUCKED IN if they interfere with the flag-belt in any way. Flags & other equipment will be provided.

Food & Drinks: Hydration is important when playing outdoor sports, so please be sure to pack your own water bottle. No alcohol will be permitted on the beach due to city and state liquor laws.

Due to legal restrictions from the City of Newport Beach, there will be NO ATHLETIC TRAINERS moving forward at our Newport Beach leagues. This is a service we have been pleased to provide (at no additional cost to you) for 10 years, but will no longer be able to do so. Please come prepared with your own finger tape, knee/ankle wraps, and any other preventative supplies you or a teammate might benefit from.

Player of the Week: Each week our Referees will choose one Player of the Week who will receive a BCS hat to commemorate their good game! As with all weekly prizes, make sure you or your team captain checks into our main tent to receive your prize the following week.

 

Performance Challenges: Each week we will announce a performance challenge. These challenges will consist of -but not limited to – the team with the most touchdowns, 2point conversions, interceptions, etc. This first week's challenge will be awarded to the team with the most TD catches by any player. The award is a free pitcher of beer at our sponsor bar Cruisers, and is awarded the following week from our registration tent.

 

Team Spirit Challenges: Every week we will hand out an award for the team showing the most spirit. There are no rules for this challenge, just be creative and have fun! The award is a free pitcher of beer at our sponsor bar Cruisers! Your prize will be awarded the following week.

 

Bad Weather Days: We always prefer to play - but in some cases games will be cancelled only due to lightening or unsafe field conditions (or when mandated by the city). Cancelled games will be texted to our team captains within 2 hours of game-time and posted via facebook (www.facebook.com/beachcitysportsemail). Up to 2 rescheduled games are possible in a BCS league, either by double header on a future week OR by extending the season. If the weather requires more than 2 reschedeuled games, those games will NOT be rescheduled and refunds will not be issued.

 

End of Season Prizes:

Golden Keg division - Golden keg and koozies

Cruisers division - Team trophy and bronze medals

Pre-Party division - Team trophy and silver medals
